PAPILLION, Neb. (AP) — A 37-year-old Bellevue man has made a deal with prosecutors and admitted fatally shooting his stepdaughter on the front porch of her mother's home.

Bellevue Selected to Compete in National Green Contest

The City of Bellevue has been selected to represent Nebraska in the SC Johnson Green Choices Challenge.

The city with the biggest percentage of sustainable participation during the 6-month contest period, will win a $100,000 environmental grant. The competition began July 2^nd and runs through December.

Bellevue’s Interim Police Chief says things are starting to return to normal for the department.

Captain Mark Elbert is Interim Chief, following the resignation of John Stacey. Stacey was placed on administrative leave in early May following allegations that he made an inappropriate remark to a teenage girl while she was touring a Fire Station. Stacey’s last day with the Bellevue Police Department was Thursday.

Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey has resigned, effective Friday.

Stacey’s resignation was announced in a joint statement released Wednesday afternoon with the City of Bellevue. Stacey was with the Bellevue Police Department for more than three decades, and previously served as Fire Chief. In the statement, City Administrator Dan Berlowitz said "Stacey will retire after a career of 34 years with the City of Bellevue. On behalf of the city, I wish him well."

June 6 court date for Bellevue Police Chief, former Gretna City Administrator

Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov says additional charges are possible against Gretna’s former city administrator.

Colleen Lawry and Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey were charged Thursday in Sarpy County Court with violating a gun certificate law. Polikov says they’re scheduled to appear in court June 6.

The charge is a class one misdemeanor, with a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Longtime Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey is on administrative leave.

Bellevue city administrator Dan Berlowitz confirmed Thursday morning Stacey is on leave while the city attorney investigates a personnel matter. Berlowitz couldn’t disclose any additional information.

A recent survey done by Bellevue University shows 2 out of 3 people who don’t have a degree are thinking about going back to school.

Dr. Mary Hawkins, President of Bellevue University, says the purpose of the study was to understand the thoughts, motives and concerns of adults who have thought about going back to college and why they aren’t doing so.
