American Red Cross Will Recognize Local Heroes

The American Red Cross Omaha/Council Bluffs Metro chapter is seeking nominations for “unsung heroes.”

Communications and Marketing Program Director, Richard Dinsdale, says the nominees should have done something heroic or provided an extraordinary service to the community. He says they will select five or six people to recognize at their Heroes in the Heartland luncheon event on March 8th.

Dinsdale says they have six hero categories aimed at recognizing "ordinary people who have done a variety of wonderful things." One of them is the “Call to Action."

“Oftentimes someone who, by circumstances beyond their control, they found themselves in a challenging situation, like a horrendous accident on the freeway or a home fire and demonstrated extraordinary courage. We’ve had people that have pulled people out of burning cars. It could also be a public servant – a firefighter or even a policeman.”

Dinsdale says they will produce a video containing a short interview with each of the heroes, which be shown at the luncheon.

The deadline for nominations is December 22nd.
