Change to Dram Shop law allows for civil court relief
By Katie Knapp
Omaha, NE – The Dram Shop/Social Host law allows victims of underage drunk drivers, or the victims' families, to sue restaurants, convenience stores, or other businesses that sell alcohol to minors. Victims and families can also seek civil damages from parents who provide alcohol to minors for a party. Project Extra Mile Executive Director Diane Riibe says the new law is another way families can achieve closure. Riibe also hopes the law will discourage parents from providing alcohol to minors for a party, and businesses from selling to underage patrons.
