The Douglas County Election Commission announces early voting list

Last week, Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse announced his office is implementing an early voting request list.

He explains this is meant as a convenience for Douglas County voters who prefer to vote early by mail.

Kruse explains that in the state of Nebraska if you want a ballot mailed to you, you must request this.  The Election Commission doesn’t automatically mail ballots.

Kruse says all ballots will now have a line on the top that you will fill out if you want to vote early.

If you fill out the line, then each election moving forward, you will get a postcard from the Election Commission that you will complete and mail in.

Kruse says once his office receives it, they will mail you a ballot.

"So it’s important to note that we are starting the list from scratch, from zero.  And it has no effect on this election.  The first time postcards will be mailed is the presidential primary in 2020.”

Kruse says the Early Voting Request List will also help the efficiency of the Douglas County Election Commission.

Mailings will only be sent to voters who prefer to vote early by mail.  Kruse explains this will reduce waste and result in a savings of materials, printing costs and postage.
