Flooding closes recreational area in southeastern Nebraska

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) — Officials have closed a state recreational area along the Missouri River in southeastern Nebraska because of flooding.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says in a written release Tuesday that the Riverview Marina State Recreation Area is closed until further notice.

Officials say campgrounds, restrooms and other amenities at the park are under water, and electricity to the park has been temporarily disconnected.

After water levels recede, regional park staff will clear the area of debris before reopening it to the public.

The flooding comes after rain and storms dumped nearly a foot of water in some places across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

An OSHA investigation determined that the 39-year-old Orozco was not using fall protection at the time of his death. OSHA says the company violated federal safety codes covering use of aerial lifts, use of hoists and rigging, training and fall protection.

OSHA says M&M Industrial has since taken steps to comply with federal regulations.
