René Marie, a jazz vocalist with a truly original way of performing heart felt jazz music, continues to cement her reputation as a singer and composer. Her wise, provocative and daredevil style draws equally on jazz, folk, R&B and country to build statements of compelling jazz music.
In a recent phone interview, KIOS Jazz host Chris Cooke spoke with René Marie. Click on the link below to hear that conversation.
René Marie started her career as a jazz vocalist at the age of 41. Her process of personal transformation followed. She left a job at a bank and a husband who was physically and verbally abusive to her. Forging ahead on her own, she financed her first recording and followed that up with several increasingly hypnotic albums. Her fearlessness in telling the stories that need to be told--not just the standards, not just the love songs--is a remarkable thing.
See René Marie live at the 1200 Club at the Holland Center at 7:30pm March 15th. For more information you may visit http://www.omahaperformingarts.org
