New Omaha Police Chief from within the department
A 17 year veteran of the Omaha Police Department is the new Police Chief.
Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle announced this (Tue) afternoon that Todd Schmaderer is the new Police Chief as of Wednesday. Schmaderer currently oversees the Uniform Patrol bureau and the budget. He was one of two internal candidates for the position.
Schmaderer says his goals are to modernize the department and do more community policing. He says he supports civilian oversight of the department and will demand professionalism from OPD members.
Schmaderer will be sworn in Wednesday evening as the new Police Chief.
