Panel Discussion: Minority Issues in the Media

Last month, journalism diversity advocate Dori Maynard passed away. In the spirit of Ms. Maynard's work, join us for a discussion about minority issues in the media.

Panelists: 

Teresa Trumbly Lamsam, Ph.D., is the executive director of Native Health News Alliance, an online news site for Native health. She is also an associate professor in the School of Communication at UNO.

Jo Giles is VP of Communications Strategy at Emspace Group. A former anchor/reporter turned public relations professional; she has a master's degree in journalism and a bachelor's degree in psychology and African-American studies.

John Heaston is the publisher and editor of The Reader and El Perico, and is involved with the National Association of Hispanic Publications, and the Mildred D. Brown Memorial Study Center.

Yanira Garcia, a native of Michoacan, Mexico, is a news reporter at Lobo 97.7 and Omaha Noticias.  She did a production assistant internship with Telemundo Network, and NBC affiliate, in Washington D.C.
