Ralston committee seeks to preserve city's history

RALSTON, Neb. (AP) — A new city-sanctioned historic preservation commission aims to increase efforts to preserve Ralston's history.

The Omaha World-Herald reports that the commission is currently in the process of identifying sites that should be preserved. No city buildings currently have a national or local historic landmark designation.

The commission has formed just as the city is taking steps toward revitalizing certain areas.

Mayor Don Groesser says the commission will better equip the city to pursue historic preservation grants. He says those funds could also foster the reuse of buildings and the area's development. Groesser says he plans to keep the commission informed of the city's development plans.

Ralston was established in 1907 and has buildings that date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. The city has about 7,300 residents.
