Serving Hands: Celebrating 50 Years of Campus Life! is Lincoln's next public art project

Lincoln’s next Public Art Project is called Serving Hands: Celebrating 50 Years of Campus Life
Liz Shea-McCoy is the director of Serving Hands, and explains this public art project is modeled after others in Omaha and Lincoln.

She says these particular sculptures will be in the shape of cupped hands.  Shea-McCoy explains the works will be made of fiberglass that can be cut safely and will be easy for the artists to work with.

She says artists can submit from one to five proposals using the drawing they will see on the website.  Proposals are due by October 3rd.

"Then after the submission of the artists’ proposals, by October 3rd, we will have a jury that will jury in those proposals that are strong, unique, original designs and then we move into the sponsorship phase of the project.”

Shea-McCoy says sponsors are found by the committee not the artists.

Once the artist has a sponsor, they will receive a $500 stipend and the fiberglass hands.  She says they have until April 1st to complete the design process.

The artwork will be on display in Lincoln, May through August of 2019.
