Omaha, Nebraska – The Nebraska Jazz Orchestra (NJO) presents Trumpet Titan, the fifth and final concert of their season, this month. The concert will be held Friday, May 25 in Lincoln. Trumpeter Terell Stafford will join the NJO for this special night of music. The NJO is also proud to present the 2007 Young Jazz Artist winner, Gabriela Praetzel, on saxophone.
Musical selections to be featured will include "Portrait of Louis Armstrong" by Duke Ellington, "Hey, It's Me You're Talkin' To" by Victor Lewis, "Lucy" by Charley Gray, and "Dear Ruby" by Terell Stafford.
World renowned trumpet player Terell Stafford has been hailed as "one of the great players of our time, a fabulous trumpet player," by piano legend McCoy Tyner. Stafford combines lyricism and a deep love of melody with a spirited adventurous edge. He is a gifted and versatile player with a voice all his own. His current recording with his Quintet, Taking Chances: Live at the Dakota is available on MaxJazz Records.
2007 NJO Young Jazz Artist winner, Gabriela Praetzel is a music education major at UNL. Praetzel is currently the lead alto saxophone in the UNL Jazz Ensemble I, which recently performed as the opening act for the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra's performance in Lincoln. One of her major influences in learning jazz was her father, a jazz trombonist in Germany.
