Sen. Nelson: new farm bill is important to Nebraska's number one industry

 

Nebraska's senior U.S. Senator says a new farm bill making its way through the Senate is good for the Cornhusker State.

Senator Ben Nelson's comments came late last week before a 90-to-8 vote to move the farm bill to debate. The measure would end the direct payment program, and streamline other services.

With primary approaching, Second Congressional District candidates focusing on the federal deficit

With Nebraska’s primary election approaching, the candidates for the Second Congressional District are talking jobs, the economy, and federal spending.

The primary election is next Tuesday. Second District Congressman Lee Terry is running for his seventh term in the U.S. House. Terry’s campaign chairman, Dave Boomer, says the Congressman is focusing his campaign on spending and fiscal accountability.

Second Congressional District GOP candidates to debate Friday

 

The Republican candidates for Nebraska’s Second Congressional District debate this week.

The Omaha Press Club and League of Women Voters are hosting the debate at noon Friday. Incumbent Congressman Lee Terry is seeking another term in the U-S House. He has three opponents. One is financial adviser Brett Lindstrom. UNO mathematics professor Jack Heidel and former Douglas County Republican Party Chairman Glenn Freeman are also running for Congress.

Second Congressional District candidates to participate in environmental forum, debate

 

Voters in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District have opportunities Thursday and Friday to hear from the candidates.

The Sierra Club of Nebraska is sponsoring a candidate forum Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Omaha. The forum will focus on environmental issues and public transportation. Democratic candidates Gwen Howard and John Ewing, and Republican candidates Jack Heidel and Glenn Freeman, will participate in tonight’s forum.
