Omaha Mayor questions use of furlough program following weekend shooting

Jermaine Lucas was on a furlough from the Community Corrections Center of Lincoln when he was shot and killed Sunday by two Omaha Police officers. Authorities say Lucas, a known gang member, was armed.

Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle says he questions whether a furlough system to help reacclimate inmates into society should be used in some cases.

United Way of the Midlands sets ambitious 2012 goal

United Way of the Midlands has set an ambitious goal to support “The Power of Change,” their fundraising drive over the next two months.  They announced the nearly $23.5 million goal and some special, one-time grants at a kickoff event August 29th.
