Committee hears legislation cutting the size of Omaha Public Schools Board

Omaha, NE – The Omaha Public Schools board is opposing two measures that would cut the size of school boards.

Senator Scott Lautenbaugh's bill had its first hearing in a Unicameral committee meeting Wednesday. In addition to cutting the board to five members from its current 12, the legislation would also pay board members $20,000 and limit them to two four-year terms.

Taxes, job creation, child welfare reform part of State of the State

Omaha, NE – Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman is calling on lawmakers to cut state income taxes by $326.6 million dollars over the next three years.

Taxes were a central part of Heineman's State of the State address Thursday. Heineman's plan would change the state income tax brackets and lower rates accordingly. The legislation, sponsored by Bellevue Senator Abbie Cornett, would also eliminate Nebraska's inheritance tax.
