Omaha's Minor League team desires more attention during College World Series

Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett, new Omaha Storm Chasers owner Gary Green, and Storm Chasers GM Martie Cordaro at a news conference Tuesday.

The day South Carolina clinched its second straight College World Series championship last year, the Omaha Storm Chasers played a day game.  Combined attendance at the two venues reached almost 34,000.  That surpassed attendance numbers in nine cities during a full slate of games in Major League Baseball.  But as good as it sounds for Omaha as a baseball mecca, the Storm Chasers are struggling to grab some attention.

Durham Museum Wins Merit Award

The Durham Museum will receive the 2012 Award of Merit form the American Association for State and Local History.

Shawna Forsberg, Durham Marketing Director, says the award is for the museum’s distance learning initiative.  She says the program began in 2007 when the Durham opened its new lecture hall.

Omaha Storm Chasers have a new owner

Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett, new Omaha Storm Chasers owner Gary Green, and Storm Chasers GM and VP Martie Cordaro at Tuesday's news conference.

A day after Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett declared, "It's your team," the new owner of the Storm Chasers was in a polo shirt and surveying Werner Park for the Wednesday afternoon home game.

Gary Green formally introduced himself Tuesday as CEO when the news of the Storm Chasers' sale was announced.  Green, who is based in New York, admitted trepidation about being accepted in Omaha.

Election Commission proposes adding, changing precincts before November election

The Douglas County Election Commission wants to add 30 precincts and make changes to 69 others before the November election.

Election Commissioner Dave Phipps made the announcement Wednesday, following public and advisory coalition meetings on the closure of polling places. The number of precincts was reduced by almost half prior to the May 15th primary election. State law, the 2010 Census, and redistricting meant changes to precincts would be needed in all of Nebraska’s 93 counties.
