Metro Fireworks/Gun Amnesty Day Saturday

The 4th of July is over and the Omaha Police Department is offering individuals the opportunity to turn in leftover fireworks this weekend.

The Metro Area Fireworks and Gun Amnesty day will take place this Saturday from 9:00 to 3:00 at two locations: Ambassador Worship Center, 103rd and Fort Streets and Seymour Smith Park, at 72nd and Harrison Streets.  OPD Sgt. Matt Manhart says guns, ammunition and fireworks will be accepted at both locations with no questions asked.

Four finalists chosen for Omaha Police Chief

The city of Omaha has announced the four finalists for Police Chief.

A nationwide search for Police Chief candidates was conducted following the retirement of Alex Hayes. Two finalists are from within the department. One is Captain Gregory Gonzalez. He’s Southwest Precinct Commander and an Acting Deputy Chief.

The other is Deputy Police Chief Todd Schmaderer, who oversees the Uniform Patrol Bureau operations and budget.

Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey has resigned, effective Friday.

Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey has resigned, effective Friday.

Stacey’s resignation was announced in a joint statement released Wednesday afternoon with the City of Bellevue. Stacey was with the Bellevue Police Department for more than three decades, and previously served as Fire Chief. In the statement, City Administrator Dan Berlowitz said "Stacey will retire after a career of 34 years with the City of Bellevue. On behalf of the city, I wish him well."

Bellevue Police Chief on administrative leave

Longtime Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey is on administrative leave.

Bellevue city administrator Dan Berlowitz confirmed Thursday morning Stacey is on leave while the city attorney investigates a personnel matter. Berlowitz couldn’t disclose any additional information.
