Chuck Hassebrook drops out of U.S. Senate race, endorses Bob Kerrey

Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook is no longer a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.

Hassebrook announced Thursday morning he’s dropping out of the Senate race and endorsing fellow Democratic candidate Bob Kerrey. Last week, Hassebrook said Kerrey’s candidacy wouldn’t affect his own. But Hassebrook says it’s been difficult to organize a campaign. "I’ve spent a lot of hours since then working to do just that. But in recent days, I’ve come to the realization that I would not succeed."

UNO political scientist expects GOP presidential race to remain close

A UNO political scientist expects all four GOP presidential candidates will stay in the race following Super Tuesday.

Results of the ten Super Tuesday primaries were split. In Ohio, GOP candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were locked in a close race. Santorum, Romney, and Newt Gingrich all picked up wins, and delegates.

UNO political scientist expects contentious Senate race; Hassebrook staying in

 

A UNO political scientist expects the race for Ben Nelson’s Senate seat to be contentious and expensive.

Former Nebraska Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey announced Wednesday he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for Nelson’s seat. That comes more than two weeks after Kerrey said he wouldn’t run.

City Council to discuss ordinance banning discrimination on basis of sexual orientation

 

Omaha City Councilmen will discuss an ordinance Tuesday that bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

The ordinance is sponsored by Councilman Ben Gray. It seeks to prohibit discrimination in the workplace and all public places in Omaha on the basis of “actual or perceived” gender identity or sexual orientation. Anyone who believes they’ve been the target of discrimination could file a complaint with Omaha’s Human Rights and Relations Department.
