With an unprecedented school year ahead, feelings of unease and uncertainty accompany it—especially for parents who are visually impaired. Trying to teach their children from using tools that aren’t easily accessible for people with vision loss created major challenges last spring, and many are expecting similar challenges this fall, too. Outlook Enrichment is creating a support group via Zoom to aid families affected by vision loss during the upcoming school year. The support group is a forum for families affected by vision loss to interact and present issues they are encountering in assisting their children with remote learning. The group, which will meet for six consecutive Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. starting Aug. 27, will troubleshoot solutions with Outlook Enrichment staff and their peers. In addition to the support group, Outlook Enrichment’s adaptive technology trainers now offer virtual training sessions. This training is available to families who need additional support during this uncertain time. For people who would like to participate in the support group but need instruction using Zoom or have additional questions about Outlook Enrichment’s programs and services, please contact Paulette Monthei, Outlook Enrichment Program Manager, at 402.973.0505 or visit the events page at www.outlookne.org/events.
