LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The trial for a former University of Nebraska women's basketball player charged with faking a hate-crime attack has been set for Jan. 7.
KETV reports (http://bit.ly/TaamrC) that 34-year-old Charlie Rogers and her attorney appeared in court Tuesday for a hearing at which the judge set the trial date.
She is charged with making a false report for telling police in July that three masked men broke into her home, bound her naked, and carved hate messages on her arms and stomach.
She has pleaded not guilty and maintains her innocence, insisting the attack happened.
Rogers has asked Lancaster County Judge Gale Pokorny to move her trial away from Lincoln because of publicity. Pokorny will rule on that request later.
