City Council to vote Tuesday on sewer use fees increase

Omahans could pay much more in sewer use fees if a proposal before the City Council is approved Tuesday.

The City Council is scheduled to vote on the sewer use fees increase at Tuesday’s meeting. Currently, the average residential customer’s bill is $35.26 a month. It would increase to $39.67 next year, and then to more than 51 dollars in 2018.

After 2018, rates could increase 9 percent a year.

The sewer use fees increase is proposed in conjunction with the combined sewer overflow project. It’ll cost the city of Omaha $2 billion over 20 years to complete the project. Completion is scheduled for 2027.

The Omaha City Council meets at 2 pm Tuesday.
