On Friday, Jazz in the Afternoon will present two newly released live recordings by Thelonious Monk and Ella Fitzgerald. The two collections have previously been unavailable.
To celebrate Thelonious Monk's birthday October 10, we will have music from Palo Alto, just released in September on Impulse. It was recorded in 1968 at a high school in Palo Alto, California.
Ella: The Lost Berlin Tapes were issued October 2nd. It's a concert Ella Fitzgerald gave in Berlin in March 1962 and the tapes were part of the private collection of Verve Records founder Norman Granz. It's another stellar live performance from The First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald.
