Omaha, NE – Millard South High School's assistant principal is being remembered as an administrator who loved her students and her job.

Vicki Kaspar died Wednesday night at Creighton University Medical Center. She and principal Curtis Case were shot Wednesday afternoon in the school's office by 17-year-old Robert Butler Jr. Butler, a senior at Millard South, fled the scene and was found dead a short time later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Butler was the son of an Omaha Police detective.

Kaspar joined Millard South High School in 1988 as an English teacher and became assistant principal in 1998. Amy Friedman, Communications Director for Millard Public Schools, remembers Kaspar as "a dynamo. She was energetic, she was in it because she loved the kids and cared about them, I think if you talked to any of the students that's what they would tell you. She was well-respected among the staff. She was a rock, and we're just profoundly sad."

Friedman says classes will resume Friday at Millard South High School, where grief counselors will be available. She says it's important for students and staff to return to a normal routine.

Curtis Case remains hospitalized at Creighton University Medical Center.
