GoGo Penguin are from Manchester, UK. The band features pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka, and drummer Rob Turner.
With trip hop, ambient, electronica, jazz and classical elements combined in the music they create, the trio has released a series of fine albums. Their 2018 release A Humdrum Star was featured extensively on Last Call with a focus on several riveting selections including "Raven", "Strid" and the excellent "Bardo".
GoGo Peguin's latest recording, a self-titled effort, does not disappoint. Highlights of the disc include "Atomised", "Signal in the Noise", "Open" and "Kora". Nick Blacka's basslines combine with drumming from Rob Turner and piano artistry from Chris Illingworth to result in a group sound that alternates from contemplative minimalism to relentless energy. Fans of Brian Eno and Philip Glass will find much to enjoy in GoGo Peguin's recordings and this latest effort is another delightful addition.
