The 2018 Nonprofit Summit of the Midlands is scheduled for Thursday, November 1st, hosted by the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands and D. A. Davidson. This year’s theme is “The Future is…”
This year’s keynote speaker, Akaya Winwood, the outgoing President of the Rockwood Leadership Institute, says strong nonprofit leadership is needed now like never before.
Winwood says she has been impressed at what she has seen happening in the Midwest on her recent travels.
“I have to say, I was surprised, and I feel silly for saying I was surprised. But I live here in Oakland, and I’m used to thinking on a national level. And I’m thinking that may not be where the real change is going to happen; I think it may be happening regionally and locally. What’s happening in the Heartland is often disregarded or overlooked, and I’m seeing some very courageous folks in the Heartland doing things that are inclusive and forward-thinking…and that work.”
The importance of both courage and “place” are among the topics Winwood plans to discuss in her keynote.
Rosey Higgs, Program Manager at NAM, says the Summit is a great way to network with other people in the nonprofit sector.
“And we’ve got some fantastic breakouts this year. The Urban League Young Professionals will be presenting on community power building; we’ve got a workshop on team development through inclusion’ we’ve got a corporate culture breakout coming up. Somebody will be presenting on digital fundamentals, conflict management, as well as leadership skills. So, we’ve got a really exciting day planned.”
The Nonprofit Summit will be held at the Embassy Suites LaVista Conference Center, and there’s a $50.00 savings to preregister by October 1st.
