4-year-old western Iowa boy shot in back of neck, police say

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a 4-year-old western Iowa boy has been shot in the back of his neck and another child has been taken into protective custody.

Council Bluffs police say Q-Marion Jones was taken in critical condition to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, on Thursday and has since been transferred to Children's Hospital & Medical Center. A spokeswoman declined to update the boy's condition on Friday.

Police say the boy was shot around 5 p.m. Thursday at the Northgate Apartments in Council Bluffs. Police say another juvenile in the home at the time had access to a semi-automatic pistol, and the child was taken into protective custody. No arrests have been reported, and police haven't said whether the shooting was accidental.
