50 Years of "Doc"

Omaha Zoo Foundation

Dr. Lee "Doc" Simmons Simmons started working at the then-named Henry Doorly Zoo in 1966 as a resident veterinarian, becoming the Zoo's director in 1970. He retired from that position in 2009 and serves today as chairman of the Omaha Zoo Foundation. In a conversation with Michael Lyon, he looks back at the last 50 years.

Michael Lyon is a native of great Britain who immigrated to Los Angeles in 1981. His business background is in banking: residential real estate operations, mergers and acquisitions. As Director of Fair Lending for the nation's largest thrift, he oversaw the implementation of a $70 million 10-year community reinvestment initiative.
