Bemis Center residency focuses on food

Omaha’s Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is welcoming 12 new artists who are focusing on the future of food. The Future of Food residency began September 9th and will run through December 9th. Future of Food artists are working on a wide range of projects, from documentaries about food, to visual art, to social engagement and sustainability.

Holly Kranker, residency program manager, says Nebraska is an ideal place for a conversation about the future of food. She says artists in the Future of Food residency are from all over the world.

"Bringing that experience and practice here and meeting other artists working in different topics and different ways, it’s engaging the public, using it as a visual tipping point to start a conversation."

Kranker says some of the artists want to work with the community as part of their residency. There will also be an open house and panel discussions on October 10th on food-related topics.
