Clive Democrat announces for Iowa's 3rd Congressional District seat

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Clive resident has become the first Democrat to announce that he'll try to unseat incumbent Republican David Young in Iowa's 3rd Congressional District.

Desmund Adams proclaimed his candidacy on Monday at Drake University in Des Moines. He says that if he were elected he'd seek federal funding to make community college and vocational training free and pursue a minimum wage of $15 an hour.

Adams says Young is part of a "do-nothing Congress" and says, "I haven't seen much come out of Congress and I haven't seen David do much."

The 41-year-old Adams owns AdamsDouglas, a national executive search firm.

The 3rd District includes the Des Moines metropolitan area, the rural area to the west and the Council Bluffs area.
