The College of Allied Health is UNMC's sixth college

UNMC’s School of Allied Health Professions became the medical center’s sixth college on July 1st.

Dr. Kyle Meyer is senior associate dean of the College of Allied Health Professions. He says elevating the level of allied health at UNMC from a school to a college is the next step in the university’s progression.

Meyer says UNMC has 12 different programs in the College of Allied Health Professions, all Bachelors’ level and above.

He says there are about 600 students currently enrolled in the college, second only to UNMC’s nursing college.

"The literature suggests that as high as about 60% of the US health care workforce is made up of professions that would be categorized as allied health professions so obviously those individuals make a significant contribution.”

Meyer says allied health joins the colleges of medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy and public health.
