Construction on U.S. Olympic Swim Trials pools nearing completion

Construction on two swimming pools at the CenturyLink Center is Omaha is nearly complete.

Workers are building the pools in the convention center and arena for the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials. This is the second time Omaha is hosting the trials. In 2008, more than 1,200 U.S. Swimming team members competed in Omaha. This time around it’ll be 1,800 swimmers.

Swim Trials COO Harold Cliff says construction has gone smoothly, and both pools are on schedule. Once construction is finished, both pools they’ll be filled and heated.

10 time Olympic medalist Gary Hall Jr. toured the pool construction Thursday morning. His last swim trials competition was in Omaha in 2008. He characterized those swim trials as “the most impressive swim meet that I have attended outside of an Olympic games.”Hall retired after the 2008 Olympics.
