Creighton University Medical Center Re-Certified Level 1 Trauma Designation

Creighton University Medical Center has been re-certified as a Level 1 trauma center.

Kevin Nokels, President of Creighton University Medical Center, says the State of Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services told Creighton last Friday that their designation was granted.

Nokels says no deficiencies were noted after a follow up on site survey on February 11th.

He says they are appreciative of DHHS for expediting the process and getting Creighton’s designation reinstated.

Nokels said while they didn’t have the designation, some EMS providers did not bring trauma patients to Creighton.

"Not all of them followed that but we had some, certainly the largest being the Omaha Fire Department who did not transport patients to us.  That has all changed now and so we are, effective as of yesterday, we are getting trauma patients being transported via ambulance from Omaha Fire Department and all the EMS agencies within this region now.”

Nokels said Creighton’s highly experienced trauma team is ready 24/7 to take care of any patients that would present with the most critical injuries.

He says they look forward to once again serving the entire community’s trauma needs.
