Creighton welcomes cardiovascular researchers for conference this week

For the first time ever, Creighton University will host the annual meeting of the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences – North American Section later this week.

Dr. Devendra Agrawal, professor of biomedical sciences in Creighton’s School of Medicine, is a principal organizer of the conference.

Dr. Agrawal says the academy has two major goals: to enhance knowledge in the field of various cardiovascular diseases and to bring young investigators into the cardiovascular research field.

He says the conference will focus on the various diseases related to the cardiovascular system including arteries, veins and the heart.

"And in this regard, we are talking about the diseases starting from hypertension and then going all the way to hypertrophy, heart failure, coronary artery disease, carotid artery disease and cardio myopathy.”

Dr. Agrawal says this Friday and Saturday, researchers, scientists and physicians will give talks on several different subjects.

He says the academy is working to motivate and engage young investigators to think about the current problems in cardiovascular disease all over the world.

Dr. Agrawal says this is important since this is the leading cause of death in both men and women all over the world.  For more information on the conference, the website is cvforum.org.
