Exhibit at Durham Museum shows history of Buffalo Bill's Wild West

A new exhibit at Omaha’s Durham Museum takes you to the Wild West, and the world of Buffalo Bill.

The exhibit opened January 30th at the Durham. It presents a history of how Wild West shows became popular. Items on display include Buffalo Bill’s costumes, firearms, photos, a flag, and archival footage.

Carrie Meyer, curator of the exhibit, says Omaha is the ideal place for it.

"William Cody loved Omaha. He was an Iowan, born and raised. But he came to Nebraska and really embraced the state, put his personal ranch out in Scout’s Rest, North Platte. And so he loved Nebraska, we sort of share him with Iowa. And so it’s great to be able to tell this story, because what the Wild West became, what it signified, was actually started here and tested on the Omaha audience."

“From Nebraska to the World: Buffalo Bill’s Wild West” is on display at the Durham Museum until May 1. More information is available at www.durhammuseum.org.
