Grand jury clears 3 Lincoln officers in fatal shooting

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A grand jury has cleared three Lincoln police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a Central City man who'd wounded one of them.

Twenty-nine-year-old Zachary Grigsby died Nov. 29 after a struggle with three officers who were trying to arrest him on warrants. The jury decided Tuesday the officers committed no crime.

Authorities say Grigsby resisted efforts by Sgt. Bradley Junker to take him into custody and then tangled with officers Angela Morehouse and Matthew Gilleland who arrived to help Junker. Chief Jim Peschong has said Grigsby put Morehouse in a headlock and held a gun to her head and shot Gilleland in an arm before he was struck by the officers' shots.

Nebraska law requires a grand jury investigation whenever someone dies in custody or while being arrested.
