Greater Omaha Chamber's Careerockit 2019 Open for Registration

Area educators can register until October 19th for the Greater Omaha Chamber’s third annual Careerockit program, which will take place February 11-17, 2019

Careerockit is a Chamber initiative that connects the area’s education and business communities.  The program’s goal is to provide students with experiences that will educate, engage and inspire them about business careers in the Omaha area.

Patricia Mayorga, Talent Manager at the Greater Omaha Chamber, says educators who register will answer questions about the size of their classes, what field or fields they are interested in, and whether they want someone to come to the school or to have their students visit the business site.

“That information is then input into a database, so when a business signs up, they have access to this database, and they are able to match with student groups that have an interest within what that business can teach. For example, an architecture group would be able to see all of the student groups who are interested in learning about architecture. A PR and marketing firm would be able to see all the student groups interested in PR and marketing, and then match accordingly.”

Mayorga encourages educators to register even if they are unsure what business or industry to request.

“They may come to us and tell us, ‘I just want to show my students something where they will use math.’ And so we’re like, ‘Okay, great, that gives us a whole host of experiences that we can connect you to – whether it’s something in engineering, whether it’s something in technology.’  So, in a way, we also help educators think about options they didn’t consider before.”

Mayorga says last year they facilitated over 22,000 experiences for students from 23 area school districts.  This year they hope to raise that number to 30,000.

Students in grades 3 through 12 in districts can participate in Careerockit.  Schools in the following six counties are eligible:  Douglas, Dodge, Sarpy, Cass, Washington and Pottawattamie.
