The Iowa West Foundation announces $4 million in grant/initiative funding

The Iowa West Foundation recently awarded $4 million in grant and initiative funding.

Pete Tulipana, President & CEO of the Iowa West Foundation, says one of the key areas of focus for the foundation is education.

Tulipana says one of the interesting projects the foundation is engaged in is expanding the Council Bluffs school district’s investment in the international baccalaureate program.

He says right now Council Bluffs has two schools that use the inquiry-based education model.  And they’ve both been enormously successful.

"So we are funding our current funding for them, all the funds that are needed to prepare the two middle schools in our community to become international baccalaureate schools.  This grant funding is a continuation of our commitment to really drive our K-12 system, drive it to excellence, if you will, in every aspect.”

Tulipana says the funding will help continue the implementation of the IB program at both Kirn and Wilson Middle Schools.

Funds were also given to Pottawattamie County for the implementation of a rural recycling center.
