Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital building a facility in Omaha

Lincoln-based Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital plans to build a facility in Omaha.

Construction is set to begin this spring on the 110 bed, $93 million hospital in west Omaha. Molly Nance, Director of Strategic Planning and Marketing, says the hospital will fill a need for rehabilitation care in Omaha.

"Madonna will be able to fulfill a niche that’s been missing in acute rehabilitation care. So when a patient, say someone suffers a brain injury, they get excellent care at any of the Omaha hospitals, but when they discharge, they’re probably not quite ready to go home yet. And that’s where Madonna comes in."

Nance says the hospital will have both acute and long-term rehabilitation care facilities, as well as a pediatric unit. Last year, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital provided care to 678 patients with brain injuries, 545 who’d suffered strokes, and 233 patients with spinal cord injuries.

The Omaha hospital is scheduled to open in late 2015 or early 2016.
