Mayor: Omaha mall project slowed over city funding talks

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert says the proposed redevelopment of Crossroads Mall has slowed because of a lack of an agreement on the city's contribution. The Omaha World-Herald (http://bit.ly/1WKO4P5 ) reports Stothert said at a town hall meeting Monday that developers have asked the city to fund about half of the redevelopment project through incentives. She says the city has offered city and state incentives to cover 35 percent of the cost, and that a typical offer would be around 15 percent.

Developer Rod Yates said about a year ago that the first phase would cost around $200 million. At the time, he and city officials said Omaha would likely provide about 25 percent of that cost through incentives.

Stothert didn't say what the next step in negotiations would be.
