Ahead of Metro Tranit’sORBT line’s launch on Nov. 18, you might have noticed colorful additions to bus stops along Dodge Street. Metro Transit partnered with Omaha by Design, an urban policy and design nonprofit, to enlist10 local artists to create designs for the communication boxes at some new ORBT canopies.
Artists Pamela Conyers-Hinson, Dan Crane, Tyler Emery, Rebecca Harrison, Betni Kalk, Sarah Rowe, Patty Talbert, Weston Thomson, Aaryon "Bird" Williams and Hugo Zamorano were commissioned by Omaha by Design to beautify Omaha's newest public transit system.
Art + ORBT is the first in Omaha by Design’s Art + Infrastructure initiative. The initiative aims to enliven "forgotten" pieces of the city, such as underpasses and alleyways. Courtney Bierman spoke to Omaha by Design executive director Scott Dobbe about the project.
