National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day event Saturday

Saturday is the DEA’s National Drug Take-Back Day.

It’s an opportunity for anyone to safely dispose of unwanted or unused prescription drugs. Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning says take-back day keeps highly addictive medications away from young people, who might use them for recreational purposes.

“Every day 2,500 teenagers use prescription drugs to get high for the first time. So think about how many painkillers are out there in medicine cabinets across the state. It’s easier for a kid to put their hands on these drugs than it is to get alcohol. Two in five teenagers believe these drugs are safer than street drugs and not addictive. And they’re wrong.”

More information on the Drug Take-Back Day is available at www.nebraskameds.org. You can also search for a drug take-back location at the DEA’s website, www.justice.gov/dea.
