Omaha Mayor requests street be renamed in memory of Hope Center founders

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert wants to rename part of a city street in memory of the founders of the Hope Center for Kids.

A news release from the Mayor’s office says an item will be on Tuesday’s City Council Agenda to rename part of 20th Street for Ty and Terri Schenzel.

The Schenzels were among four people killed in an auto accident in August on I-90 in South Dakota. Ty Schenzel was a pastor at Waypoint Church in Omaha.

He founded the Hope Center for Kids in 1998, as a safe place for children and teenagers to go. The Hope Center now has locations in Omaha and Fremont.

The resolution would rename 20th Street from Willis to Burdette Streets.
