Omaha theater getting new marquee as part of $1M upgrade

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A decades-old theater in Omaha is getting a digital marquee as part of a $1 million upgrade.

The Omaha World-Herald on Sunday reported The Rose Theater is putting the finishing touches on a digital marquee. It's replacing an old-style board that needed to be changed manually to advertise new shows.

The theater was first called The Riviera and opened in 1927.

The newspaper reports that the theater is also getting a new LED sign to replace its neon logo. More than 500 LED lights now line the logo in an amber glow.

An artist will begin work on a mural of trees, clouds and birds stretching from the lobby to the fourth floor later this month.

Funding for the renovations came from private foundations.
