Police say Lincoln hate crime was a hoax

Lincoln Police say a reported hate crime against a 33-year-old woman never happened. The Lancaster County Attorney's office issued an arrest warrant Tuesday afternoon for Charlie Rogers. She was arrested for filing a false police report.  Rogers reported to Lincoln police on July 22nd that she was assaulted by three men wearing ski masks. Police said at that time that derogatory language regarding a person's sexual orientation was also spray painted on the walls of her home. The FBI was involved with the investigation. Authorities say that investigation uncovered numerous inconsistencies, including DNA evidence that didn't match with Rogers' report to police. In a news release, Lincoln Police say they investigate about 120,000 cases a year, with only a fraction of those cases being false reports.
