Powerbroker Screens at Film Streams

Film Streams is partnering with the Urban League of Nebraska to present a special documentary called “The Powerbroker” this Thursday.

Thomas Warren, President and CEO of Urban League of Nebraska, says the film is about Whitney Young and his role in the civil rights movement.

He says the film was produced by Young’s niece, Bonnie Boswell, and offers insight into what was going on behind the scenes from 1960-1969.

Warren says the Urban League of Nebraska wanted to acknowledge and recognize Young’s contributions to the civil rights movement.

"He was actually once President of the Urban League of Nebraska between 1950 and 1953.  He rose to national prominence as President of the National Urban League where he served between 1960 and 1971, due to his untimely death in 1971.”

“The Powerbroker” will be screened this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Film Streams.

A post show Q&A with producer Bonnie Boswell will follow the film.

Tickets are complimentary and can be reserved by emailing molly@filmstreams.org.
