Prosecutor says big Colorado-Nebraska drug probe to continue

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska's top federal prosecutor says 54 people have been arrested so far in a major drug sweep being conducted by federal, state and local officers in western Nebraska and northeastern Colorado.

U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg said Friday after a North Platte news conference that six others also under indictment for methamphetamine-related possession and sales are still being pursued. She didn't know whether the suspects facing state drug charges had been taken into custody.

Gilg characterized those indicted as major dealers who operated alone or in small groups, without any overarching control. She says the suspects have been arrested without incident since Tuesday morning.

Gilg also says the yearlong investigation will continue as more suspects are identified.
