Red Kettle Rally is set for Saturday

The Omaha Salvation Army’s first official Red Kettle event of the season takes place this Saturday, October 21st at Werner Park in Papillion.

Susan Eustice, Director of Public Relations, says they will hold the traditional Red Kettle Run at 9 a.m. but new this year, there will also be a family fun event for all kinds of people whether they run, walk or not.

Eustice says there will also be a family mission walk that features information stations.  She says these stations highlight some of the Salvation Army’s super seven initiatives.

"That includes with food and housing, youth development, material assistance, behavioral health, older adult services and also anti-human trafficking.  Most people think of the Salvation Army as an organization that rings bells during Christmas and also has thrift stores but we have a whole lot more to offer the community than that.  And one way we can show that is through the Red Kettle Rally.”

To register for the Red Kettle Run or for more information, the website is redkettlerally.org.

Admission is a $10 donation or 10 nonperishable food items for the food pantry.  Eustice says cereal and peanut butter are the two items needed most.

Eustice says the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle goal will be announced on Friday, November 10th at the Tree of Lights Ceremony.
