Residents who receive SNAP benefits can apply to replace food lost after power outage

After Tuesday’s storm, many residents were left without power and saw their food spoil.

Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services has announced that residents who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, can apply to DHHS to replace their food.

DHHS CEO Courtney Phillips said, “The loss of food can take a big toll on our SNAP clients and further limit their resources.” Phillips said DHHS empathizes with its clients and that’s why they are making this extra effort to help relieve their concerns.

Anyone who received their SNAP benefits in August before the electrical outage, should contact DHHS by September 2nd.  SNAP clients may call 1-800-383-4278, or visit a local DHHS office.

After verifying the outage address, residents may have to wait up to four working days to receive their replacement benefits.
