Reward offered for information on suspects in killing of a 5 year old girl

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of suspects in the shooting death of a young girl Wednesday morning.

Five-year-old Payton Benson was shot and killed by a stray bullet, as she was eating breakfast with her family in her home at 3328 North 45th Street. At a news conference Wednesday evening, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said the bullet that struck Benson traveled a city block, and the residence is not believed to be the target of the shooting. Authorities say multiple people and weapons were involved.

OPD described the suspects as black males, who were in a dark, Jeep-style SUV. A vehicle matching the description was found at 61st and Spencer Streets.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call 402-444-5652, or Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP.
