As Ricketts Increases Mandate, Bellevue Gym Owner Fights to Stay Open

Governor Pete Ricketts announced a new directed health measure yesterday to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The mandate orders the closure of beauty salons, barber shops, massage therapy services, indoor theatres, and tattoo parlors through the end of April. Group sports are also not allowed until the end of May. Governor Ricketts is asking Nebraskans to double down on efforts to slow the spread of the virus. A Bellevue fitness center is still open despite pressure to close amid the pandemic. Owner of Bob's Fitness Center Bob Sterba says he's blocked off areas of his gym so guests can comply with social distancing. He says his staff has also increased cleaning and sanitation to an hourly basis so clients can continue to work out within health department guidelines. Bellevue police officers say they regularly check the gym to make sure clients are complying with local guidance and so far, they've had no issues.
