Royals celebrate World Series win, while Gordon considers his future

Greg Echlin

City officials in Kansas City estimated that around 800,000 Royals fans gathered for their World Series celebration.  It was especially meaningful to the longest-tenured Royal.

Ten years ago, Alex Gordon was drafted after helping the Huskers to the College World Series. This year, after being on baseball’s biggest stage in Major League Baseball’s Fall Classic, he was summoned by teammate Jonny Gomes to address the crowd.

“Alex Gordon.  Alex Gordon,” chanted Gomes.

Unlike last year when Gordon was left stranded on third base in Game Seven, he shared the stage with his teammates, the team’s management and the World Series trophy.

“I’ve been here since 2007.  I’ve been through the bad times,” said Gordon.  “To see it unfold to this is truly unbelievable.”

Next up for Gordon is a decision on his future.  If he declines the player option on his contract, Gordon will become a free agent.
